Bali Reactivates Visa on Arrival for 23 Countries This March

The self-quarantine-free policy in Bali is already assuring, now the reopening of Visa on Arrival (VoA)? What a good start! Directorate-General for Immigration released a set of rules concerning visa on arrival that has been effective since March 7, 2022.

We bet you have been waiting for this momentum to arrive. Today, you can travel to Bali without the complex procedures of quarantine that are utterly time-consuming. You can get around to your travel destinations once your PCR test in the airport shows positive. Moreover, you can arrange your entry permit arrangement in no time with a visa on arrival. So, what is visa on arrival that has lately become the hype in Bali’s tourism sector?

What does visa on arrival mean?

Visa on arrival is a program provided by Indonesia’s Government to help boost the number of visits to Indonesia. It is a permit of entry that allows foreigners to come to the country for business purposes, vacations, and social visits with no hassle. Here is all you need to know about visa on arrival, which will be implemented in Bali this month.

So far, only 23 countries are eligible to use visa on arrival

According to the General Directorate of Immigration, this policy is exclusive for the specific tourism visa on arrival in 23 countries. Those selected nations include Australia, United States, Netherlands, Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, England, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, France, Qatar, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

For the time being, tourists can apply for this facility only if they enter Indonesia from Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali. Despite the program is only eligible in Bali, this does not limit the VoA holders to travel to other regions in Indonesia  Jamaruli Manihuruk, Head of Bali Regional Office of Ministry of Law and Human Rights, stated that there are 16 visa counters available at the airport. 2 officers will be in charge in each one. He ensures that this will quicken the process where the 16 counters, overall, can handle 32 people in a minute.   

Requirements to obtain a visa on arrival

To receive VoA, you need to prepare a passport that is still valid for at least 6 months. Besides that, you need to prepare a return ticket and continue your journey. In addition, you need to complete documents in accordance with the requirements assigned by the COVID-19 Task Force. The fee for VoA based on Government Regulation No. 28/2019 is IDR500.000. You can extend the visa permit for a maximum of one time in the period of 30 days at the immigration office. The status of the visa permit cannot be transferred. Violation of the permit and the health protocols during your travel on the island will result in a penalty in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
